The shadow of what was lost
\"It has been twenty years since the god-like Augurs were overthrown and killed. Now, those who once served them-- the Gifted-- are spared only because they have accepted the rebellion's Four Tenets, vastly limiting their own powers. As a young Gifted, Davian suffers the consequences of a war lost before he was even born. He and his friends are despised beyond their school walls for the magical power they wield: a power that Davian, despite his best efforts, cannot seem to control. Worse, with his final test approaching and the consequences of failure severe, time to overcome his struggles is fast running out. But when Davian discovers he wields the forbidden power of the Augurs, he unwittingly sets in motion a chain of events that will change his life-- and shake the entire world\"-- Provided by publisher.

A War of Sensibilities: Recovering Henri Barbot's Paris en feu (Ignis ardens)
In a wild combination of science fiction and religious mysticism, Henri Barbot's novel Paris en feu (Ignis ardens) predicted in July 1914 a war of Zeppelins and radio waves with Germany. While Barbot's contemporaries imagined this scenario as a prophesy of the Great War that broke out only a few weeks after the publication of his novel, we should see in this text a subtler commentary on a change in French society accelerated by WWI. Paris en feu is unique in its preview of the war's displacement of French identity away from a historical and political context, to a primarily affective one.
Dragon age : the calling
\"After two hundred years of exile, King Maric has allowed the legendary Grey Wardens to finally return to Ferelden. When they come home, however, they bring dire news: one of their own has escaped into the Deep Roads and aligned himself with their ancient enemy, the monstrous darkspawn. The Grey Wardens need Maric's help, and he reluctantly agrees to lead them into the passages he traveled through many years before, chasing after a deadly secret that will threaten to destroy not only the Grey Wardens but also the kingdom above.\"--p. Heroes of the Open (Third) World: Killing as Pleasure in Ubisoft's \Far Cry\ Series
The beauty of the landscape is disrupted by border guards armed with AK-47s, who toss the author's US passport in the mud before mercilessly gunning down his travel companions. Their despotic leader, Pagan Min, takes a selfie of them with his blood-soaked hand, showing him that he looks like the locals: black hair, darkened skin, an Asian American returned to the homeland. As the Clash's \"Should I Stay or Should I Go\" plays in the background, Min spirits him to his palace to eat crab rangoon from a table decorated in monkey heads while they admire a breathtaking view of what appears to be the Nepalese valley. There he meets Amita, a gorgeous faction leader with a South Asian accent, who offers him the first real challenge of the video game he is playing: \" They're in the middle of a fucking war,\" she says. \"They don't need tourists.\"
